God has a way of using things in the natural world to reveal things that are spiritual to us. I have found that to be entirely true in my life personally, as God has used television shows, songs, and now books to give me a spiritual picture or message.
A few days ago while I was having my daily mediation, I recalled something that I read in the book, "Why We Want You to be Rich" by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki. One part of the book talks about types of investors. The gentlemen pointed out that there are three types of investors in the world: Those who do not invest at all, those who invest not to lose, and those who invest to win. Those points are certainly valid in the financial world, but what I realized during my time in meditation is that it is a very accurate depiction of us in our spiritual life as well.
I began thinking how when it comes to what we invest of ourselves in God, the people on this earth fall in one of those three categories. Let me be clear about my use of the word "invest" in this blog. Just as you invest time and devotion to someone you are building a relationship with, that type of investment is needed in building a relationship with God, but with greater reverence. With that being said, let me get back to people falling into one of those three investment categories.
We have those who do not invest all. Those who do not invest at all would be those who spend no time with God (not reading His Word, praying to, listening to, or worshipping Him). Obviously atheists and those who choose not to honor/acknowledge God would fit under this category, but there are those who claim to love God or their faith is in God, yet it's all lip service; they've made no real investment. It's somewhat like a man professing with his mouth that he loves and respects women, but he's a street pimp.
The second category is for those who invest not to lose. Basically, these investors invest just enough in God to stay out of hell. These are the people who want to do (or simply choose to do) the absolute minimum necessary to keep themselves from eternal damnation. Other than that they are cool just doing them. I suppose it would be safe to say that these are those who are saved, but they're not disciples; nor do they care to be. These are those who only want to give up just enough to get by; they do not want to make any hard sacrifices. In a way it reminds me of a person who spends 30 years on a job when they have a multi-million dollar business planted on the inside of them, but they refuse to birth it because they don’t want to go through the necessary labor pains they’ll have to endure in order for it come through the birthing canal; so they stay complacent in what they think is secure. These people do the least and yet expect the most.
Our last category is for those who invest to win. Those who invest to win are not on an intense mission to stay out of hell; they are on an intense mission to disturb hell and bring God's order to the nations. These investors stretch daily to give more and more of themselves to God. Investors who invest to win want the absolute maximum that God has for them; they want to have life and have it more abundantly. These investors are after the very heart of God; not simply what’s in His hand. We are they who do not get it right everyday and we fall sometimes, but we never quit. We are they who have the spirit of a warrior for the sake of the Kingdom of God. No, we don't always have a good day and sometimes we don't feel like being nice, but at the beginning and end of the day we are not confused about Who we serve and how amazing He is. We are they who stand in faith and launch out into the deep because we are in it to win it!
It is completely up to each individual to choose what type of investor they will be; however, it seems only wise that one should want to invest in what has the greatest return. Unlike financial investments, when your investment is in God you cannot lose; invest to win and you will win BIG!
